Thunderbird Environmental is a full service environmental consulting firm comprised of professional staff possessing more than 50 years performing site characterization, remediation, underground storage tank removal, air monitoring, groundwater monitoring, and many more environmental services. Thunderbird Environmental is a 100% Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB) that was founded by Mr. Darby Hittle.
Mr. Hittle possesses more than 25 years of experience performing Environmental Assessments (EAs), Water Quality Evaluations, Subsurface Investigations, Site Remediation, and Feasibility Studies throughout North America. Thunderbird's leadership and staff are well versed in a wide range of regulatory programs to assist our clients with their specific project needs.

Thunderbird Environmental, LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB) with staff possessing more than 30 years of experience in performing environmental site assessments, land use planning projects, biological and ecological studies, natural resource management, remedial investigations, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, field sampling, data validation, data management, and GIS/spatial analysis services.

DARBY W. HITTLE
Founder / Principal
Darby is a Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) with more than 25 years of experience providing environmental site assessment, remediation design and oversight, and regulatory compliance assistance to a wide range of private and federal clients throughout North America. Darby is a 1995 graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.S. in Geology. Darby is Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a fire protection specialist assigned to Air Force One from 1988 to 1990, and as a civil engineer/fire protection specialist in Panama from 1986 to 1988.
Co-Founder/Chief Operating Officer
Dawn has been with Thunderbird Environmental since its inception in 2014. She spent many years with Wal-Mart, helping them get a foot hold in New England by assisting in the opening and running of many stores. Now, Dawn is helping Thunderbird take flight. Having been raised in the Air Force, she has lived all over the world including Japan, HI, MI, CA, SC, NJ, WY and ending in PA where she received her B.S. in Business from Wilkes College and then her M.B.A. from Bloomsburg University. Dawn spends much of her free time with her husband, two kids, and two dogs. Her favorite things are Broadway theatre and boating. She also enjoys the beach, biking, reading, movies and way too much television.
Environmental Field Technician
Cedar is an Environmental Field Technician at Thunderbird with approximately four years of field experience. Cedar specializes in drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sampling, and drafting support for the Thunderbird team. When not in the field, Cedar assists Thunderbird with its web management and IT needs. Cedar is completing a Bachelors degree in Communications at Champlain College in Burlington Vermont. In his spare time, Cedar enjoys boating on Long Island Sound, riding his long board, playing video games, and buying the latest cold drink at CVS.
Will joined the Thunderbird team of professionals as an Environmental Scientist in March 2021. He is a 2019 Graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in Maritime Studies. Will is a resident of Guilford, Connecticut, where he enjoys fishing, kayaking and golf.
Mason joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in September of 2021. He graduated from the University of Maine Orono in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Ecology and Environmental Science. Before coming to Thunderbird, he worked in various roles in the Construction and Environmental industries. Mason resides in his hometown of Wallingford, Connecticut, where he enjoys being outdoors, traveling, fishing, and backpacking.
Senior Project Professional
Carl is a Senior Project Professional and a licensed wastewater treatment plant operator with more than 30 years of environmental and health & safety experience within the chemical manufacturing industry. Carl is a 1988 graduate of the University of Connecticut where he earned a bachelor's degree in Biology. Carl lives in Durham CT with his wife, where he enjoys fishing, hunting, and cutting firewood.
Dr. Lou Jean (Jeanie) Beishline
Jeanie joins the Thunderbird family as a Document Consultant. She received a B.S. in Education (Secondary English) and an M.Ed. in Reading from Bloomsburg University, PA. While teaching in public education, Jeanie pursued her commitment to lifelong learning. After earning a Ph.D. in Human Development (majoring in Instructional Leadership) from Marywood University, she combined teaching in public and Higher Education. Retiring from education in 2021, she now uses her skills in document review. Interests include reading, mentoring, visiting museums, and most recently restoring Civil War Veterans’ tombstones (out of respect, but driven by curiosity to read all that what was once inscribed, but became covered with time). Jeanie looks forward to supporting, as well as learning, from the knowledgeable and talented team at Thunderbird Environmental.
Dr. Kurt Frantzen, PHD
Senior Technical Professional
Kurt Frantzen is a Senior Scientist/Project Manager with 35+ years of consulting experience. Trained in biology, plant pathology, and biochemistry, he focuses on helping clients, decision makers, and stakeholders understand the science of chemicals in the environment and workplace to achieve cost-effective solutions. He understands that while regulations protect they do not predict, thus he works to assist clients and colleagues to understand and interpret environmental data, use of weight-of evidence methods, and develop evidence-based solutions. He enjoys walking (regularly clocking 4-6 miles daily), hiking, and caring for his lawn and fern garden.
Adam joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in August of 2022. He graduated from Post University in 2011 with a degree in Environmental Science. Born and raised in Hamden, he currently lives in the house his grandfather built, enjoys maintaining the house and yard, as well as growing vegetables in his garden. Adam has been into flow arts for almost a decade and has performed in many fire shows around New England. He also enjoys camping, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Emily joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in October of 2022. Emily graduated from the University at Buffalo with her Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2022. Emily was born and raised in Buffalo, NY (Go Bills!). Currently, she resides in Hamden, CT where she loves hiking, baking, driving her Jeep Wrangler, and playing ultimate frisbee with friends.
Ramon joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in April of 2023. He graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Systems and Sustainability. Ramon was born in Manila, Philippines and grew up in Hamden, CT where he currently lives. In his free time, Ramon likes to stay active by working out, hiking, rock climbing, as well as snowboarding and skiing in the wintertime. He also enjoys film photography, cooking, going to concerts, and hanging out with his friends.
Eugene joined the Thunderbird team as a Staff Geologist in May of 2023. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Earth Science and Geology. Eugene grew up in Brookfield, CT. In his free time, Eugene enjoys reading, kayaking, and fishing. He also enjoys playing board games and tennis with friends.
Alkesandr "Sasha" Wilber
Sasha joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in October 2023. He graduated from Tulane University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Environmental Science. Sasha grew up in Branford, CT and lived in London, England. In his free time, Sasha enjoys playing various racquet sports and watching soccer. He also enjoys traveling and exploring new breweries.
