Who We Are

Thunderbird Environmental is a full service environmental consulting firm comprised of professional staff possessing more than 50 years performing site characterization, remediation, underground storage tank removal, air monitoring, groundwater monitoring, and many more environmental services. Thunderbird Environmental is a 100% Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB) that was founded by Mr. Darby Hittle.

 

Mr. Hittle possesses more than 25 years of experience performing Environmental Assessments (EAs), Water Quality Evaluations, Subsurface Investigations, Site Remediation, and Feasibility Studies throughout North America.  Thunderbird's leadership and staff are well versed in a wide range of regulatory programs to assist our clients with their specific project needs.

What We Do

Thunderbird Environmental, LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOB) with staff possessing more than 30 years of experience in performing environmental site assessments, land use planning projects, biological and ecological studies, natural resource management, remedial investigations, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, field sampling, data validation, data management, and GIS/spatial analysis services.

Thunderbird specializes in Environmental Assessments (EAs), Water Quality Evaluations, Subsurface Investigations, Site Remediation, and Feasibility Studies throughout North America.  Thunderbird's leadership and staff are well versed in a wide range of regulatory programs to assist our clients with their specific project needs.

DARBY W. HITTLE

Founder / Principal

Darby is a Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) with more than 25 years of experience providing environmental site assessment, remediation design and oversight, and regulatory compliance assistance to a wide range of private and federal clients throughout North America.  Darby is a 1995 graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.S. in Geology. Darby is Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a fire protection specialist assigned to Air Force One from 1988 to 1990, and as a civil engineer/fire protection specialist in Panama from 1986 to 1988.

DAWN HITTLE

Co-Founder/Chief Operating Officer

Dawn has been with Thunderbird Environmental since its inception in 2014. She spent many years with Wal-Mart, helping them get a foot hold in New England by assisting in the opening and running of many stores. Now, Dawn is helping Thunderbird take flight. Having been raised in the Air Force, she has lived all over the world including Japan, HI, MI, CA, SC, NJ, WY and ending in PA where she received her B.S. in Business from Wilkes College and then her M.B.A. from Bloomsburg University. Dawn spends much of her free time with her husband, two kids, and dog, Blue. Her favorite things are Broadway theatre and boating. She also enjoys gardening, the beach, walking, reading and way too much television.

CEDAR HITTLE

Environmental Field Technician

Cedar is an Environmental Field Technician at Thunderbird with approximately four years of field experience. Cedar specializes in drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sampling, and drafting support for the Thunderbird team.  When not in the field, Cedar assists Thunderbird with its web management and IT needs.  Cedar is completing a Bachelors degree in Communications from Champlain College in Burlington Vermont.  In his spare time, Cedar enjoys boating on Long Island Sound, riding his long board, playing video games, and is a true movie enthusiast.

Dr. Kurt Frantzen, PHD

Senior Technical Professional

Kurt Frantzen is a Senior Scientist/Project Manager with 35+ years of consulting experience.  Trained in biology, plant pathology, and biochemistry, he focuses on helping clients, decision makers, and stakeholders understand the science of chemicals in the environment and workplace to achieve cost-effective solutions.  He understands that while regulations protect they do not predict, thus he works to assist clients and colleagues to understand and interpret environmental data, use of weight-of evidence methods, and develop evidence-based solutions.   He enjoys walking (regularly clocking 4-6 miles daily), hiking, and caring for his lawn and fern garden.

Aleksandr "Sasha" Wilber

Associate Project Manager

Sasha joined the Thunderbird  team as an Environmental Scientist in October 2023. He graduated from Tulane University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Environmental Science. Sasha grew up in Branford, CT and lived in London, England. In his free time, Sasha enjoys playing various racquet sports and watching soccer. He also enjoys traveling and exploring new breweries.

Grace Walsh

Environmental Scientist

Grace joined the Thunderbird team as an Environmental Scientist in July 2026. A recent graduate of the University of Connecticut, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Global Change in May 2026. Grace has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys exploring New England’s parks and trails in her free time. She also has two cats who keep her company at home.

Jessie Hittle

Marketing and Business Development Assistant

Jessie Hittle joined the Thunderbird Team of professionals as a Marketing and Business Development Assistant in December 2024. Jessie is a 2024 graduate of Falmouth University (Cornwall County UK), where she earned a BA in Acting. Jessie was born and raised on the Connecticut shoreline, but now resides in London, England where she continues to pursue her acting career.
